Case Manager | Behavioral Health | Huntington Beach, CA - Drug and Alcohol Counseling
Hotel California by the Sea (HCBTS) is a dual-diagnosis drug and alcohol treatment center located in Huntington Beach, CA with other facilities located in Bellevue, WA and Cincinnati, OH. HCBTS is looking for a dynamic, flexible, and passionate individual to join our outstanding team as a Case Manager!
JOB DUTIES
- Provide substance use disorder counseling and case management services to clients across the continuum of care. Counseling and case management services provided are individualized, evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and appropriate for the needs of the individuals served.
- Responsible for completing all ASAM assessments, screenings, and discharge/transfer documentation in accordance with the current ASAM Treatment Criteria and Level of Care Guidelines. Individual 1-on-1 Case Management Sessions; ASAM Level of Care Assessments. Group Counseling; Group Education Sessions; and other case management services as needed and in accordance with CM’s scope of practice.
- Utilize information obtained from the client, medical records, physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, nurses, client’s family / loved ones, HCBTS team members and others as appropriate to evaluate and treat the client’s biopsychosocial needs in all six dimensions of the ASAM criteria. Assesses client’s strengths, needs, abilities and preferences and develops a workable plan for treatment and recovery in all six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria.
- Provide ongoing coordination of client’s needs through the continuum of care and counseling to facilitate the development of coping mechanisms for managing substance use disorders and psychosocial stressors.
- Educates clients and their family members / loved ones on the disease of addiction and treatment options. Continuously reviews the client’s psychosocial support system, living environment, and career/education status to identify barriers to the client’s treatment, recovery, and aftercare / discharge plan.
- Support, facilitate, and participate in therapeutic treatment interventions for clients as needed.
Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to calm, comfort and stabilize distressed clients. - Work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote, facilitate, and achieve desired treatment outcomes for clients. Attend and actively participate in clinical meetings with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Professionally document and timely complete electronic medical records (EMR) for all treatment and services rendered in HCBTS EMR system (KIPU) in accordance with the following:
- Plans, prioritizes, manages, and completes work duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
- Participate in the continuous quality management and performance improvement process.
- Complete compliance reports and provide support and assistance in the development and improvement of clinical policies and procedures.
- Assist in the clinical utilization review process as necessary and appropriate for client’s continuing care.
- Support and promote a treatment environment that is safe, healthful, caring, comfortable, supportive,
- culturally-competent, and therapeutic.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent clinical writing skills. Documentation is detailed, professional, thoughtful, and individualized.
- Effective clinical communication skills in both individual (1-on-1) and group settings.
- Capable of making sound clinical decisions when clients are at high risk for relapse and/or experiencing
significant negative symptoms due to behavioral health disorders/conditions.
- Good time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and
integrate cultural sensitivity when providing services.
- Detailed working knowledge and experience in complying with HIPAA and other governing laws and
regulations to ensure the confidentiality, privacy, and security of protected health information and medical
records in the behavioral healthcare field.
- Basic computer skills. Working knowledge and experience using electronic medical record systems. (KIPU)
- Knowledge and understanding of The Joint Commission’s behavioral healthcare standards.9. Plans, prioritizes, manages, and completes work duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Case Manager must be licensed / certified as one of the following in the State of California:
o Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC)
o Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW)
o Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
o Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor III (CADC-III)
o Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor II (CADC-II)
o Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor I (CADC-I)
o Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor III (SUDCC III)
o Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor II (SUDCC II)
o Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor (SUDCC)
o Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor V (CATC V) *only if issued after 3-11-2019*
o Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor IV (CATC IV) *only if issued after 3-11-2019*
o Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor III (CATC III) *only if issued after 3-11-2019*
*** License / certification must be active, current, and in good standing
- 2+ years of experience providing addiction/substance use disorder counseling and case management services
- 4+ years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification
